REI Return Policy

REI accepts returns for one full year on most items under its satisfaction guarantee — the gear didn't work out, bring it back. Electronics get 90 days. The guarantee does not cover ordinary wear and tear: gear that served you fine and then wore out is not "unsatisfying."

The rules the official page won't tell you

The wear-and-tear line is where returns get refused: a tent that failed on its second pitch is covered; boots destroyed by 400 miles of trail are not. Damage from an actual defect gets routed to the manufacturer warranty instead.
Re/Supply used gear (REI's resale program) carries a much shorter window than new gear — check the tag, not the general policy.
REI co-op members have purchases tied to their membership, making receipt-free returns easy; non-members should keep the receipt.
Final-sale and outlet items can be excluded — the listing says so when it applies.

Can I return used hiking gear to REI?

Yes, within a year, if it genuinely didn't work out — that is the point of the guarantee. What gets refused is gear that simply wore out from the use you got out of it.

Do REI members need receipts?

Effectively no — co-op purchases attach to your member number and can be pulled up at the desk. Guest purchases need the receipt or the card used.
